Details of Seodaemun Prison is located outside the historic city center, built during the Japanese occupation in 1910. The Japanese used it to imprison, torture, and execute Korean freedom fighters. Now, the prison has become a museum commemorating the death of the independents. The site itself is large enough to be placed in the city. It has three rows of chief men’s prisons with different cells. A small women’s prison, execution rooms, a factory, a sick prison, a kitchen, sports facilities, and exhibition halls.

The exhibition room covers everything from the history of the prison. The torture squad to the rooms dedicated to commemorating all the historical figures. How to get there:

  • East Immunity Station of Line 3
  • Exit 5.

Find street art in the Yanhua Mural Village in Yanhua Cave
If you are looking for street art, please visit Ihwa Mural Village in the Ihwa-dong area. This former slum suburb is now a must-see destination for colorful murals and stairs, street art, and sculptures. We like to examine the artwork of rabbits and fish in any corner of the building. This area is at the top of the mountain, so it requires stairs. Residents live in this area, so please do not disturb or make too much noise while walking.

When in a rural area, walk through Naksan Park and admire a part of the city wall of Seoul. The city wall is impressive because they make it of stone. Walk along the wall and you will experience a panoramic view of the city. For active tourists, consider taking the route from Dongdaemun to Nashan Park (and vice versa).

How to get there:

How to get there:

  • Metro Line 4 Hyehwa Station and Exit 2.
  • Follow the signs for 10-15 minutes. (To start street art, check out the colorful poop sculpture when you exit the subway.)

Go to the Dongdaemun area for shopping until the afternoon
One of the landmark buildings in the Dongdaemun area is the Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP). On the other side of the Xianggemen Gate at the bustling intersection. This is a cool place to hang out. The building looks like a huge spaceship with thousands of aluminum panels on it. If you are interested in learning about architecture, DDP will provide daily guided tours. There are museums, shops, and parks in the area. You will also see pianos in the area, and everyone is welcome to show off their musical talents.

After passing the DDP, cross the road to various shopping centers (for example, Hyundai City Outlet Store and Doota). To buy fashion and accessories. Some shopping malls are open until late at night (that is, after midnight).

Another unique experience is shopping at the wholesale market (ie Pinghe). The wholesale market is interesting. Each supplier specializes produce a kind of clothing or accessories, such as hats, socks, and pajamas.

How to get there:

  • Dongdaemun History and Culture Park Station (Subway Line 2, 4, 5)
  • Dongdaemun (Subway Line 1) and then go out from Exit 6.
  • Walk a few steps towards DDP.

Look at Namsan Hanok Village in Jung-gu if you want to see another Hanok village. Please consider Namsangol Hanok village in the Jung-gu area. No one lives in the village because they use the restored traditional houses for cultural experiences and activities. The town is free to enter and you can browse the area. It also connects local parks and lakes to rural areas. The time capsule was buried in 1994 and will open in 2394. We think this is a bit disappointing. You better go to Bukchon Hanok Village because there are more attractions to visit. There is a shop in front of the main entrance where you can rent Hanok.

How to get there:

  • Chungmuro Station (Metro Line 3 or 4) and Exit 3 or 4.
  • Walk 5 minutes to the main entrance of the town.

Continue shopping in the Myeongdong area
Myeongdong Street is a lively shopping destination. From cosmetics and masks to beauty products and clothes. You can spend hours walking on the street to fill up your luggage. There are also many delicious food choices and creative street food (in the evening) to satisfy your hunger. We recommend Sulbing Korean Dessert Cafe for the best ice cream desserts! Also, in the area, visit Myeongdong Cathedral and Lotte and/or Shinsegae Department Store.

How to get there:

  • Subway Line 4 Myeongdong Station,
  • Get off at Exit 5 or 6.

Explore gourmet food at Namdaemun Market
Namdaemun Market: is near the restored Sungnyemun gate and is a place for shopping and dining. (We think he eats all day). It is one of the largest outdoor markets and has a more “local” shopping atmosphere. However, you can find clothes priced at 3000 won (every woman is crazy about this offer), sunglasses, etc.

A glance at the alleys that focus on various cuisines, for example, Eatery Alley (Mokja Golmok) for various Korean cuisines. Noodle Alley for Kalguk, hand-cut noodles, or other street foods. It almost took us away by a Korean woman who wanted to take us to her noodle seating area. Since we were not hungry, we declined.

How to get there:

  • Metro Line 4 Hoehyeon station (Hoehyeon station) and get off at Exit 5.
  • It takes a few minutes to reach the market.

Go out with Hongdae to enjoy the university atmosphere
Hongdae is a popular area near Hongik University. Plenty of college students shop on the main pedestrian street, relaxing in the cafe, eating, or showing off their talents. Agents can find future dancers and singers here.

Neighborhoods

One of the cool things you can do here is the Trick Eye Museum, where you can display 3D artwork. The idea is like the Artinus 3D Art Museum in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. There is an interesting experience. It is best to have a group of people to help you take pictures.

We also stopped at the Mural Street highlighted on the map, but it was nothing interesting. Most of the murals have faded, so we do not recommend using them.

How to get there:

  • Hongik University Station on Line 2 and Exit 9.
  • Walk for a few minutes.
